Dakota Avenue Fire Station No. 60
Our event continued to grow again this year, we had fantastic weather and a great turnout, over 450 people attended.
There was a lot of interest in the fire extinguisher and residential sprinkler demonstrations and the fire trucks rides, as always, were a big hit!
Annual Events
Our firefighters spend countless hours hosting and working at the various events throughout the year.
The Savage Fire Department also participates in Night to Unite (the first Tuesday in August) when each piece of equipment is disbursed in different neighborhoods and firefighters answer questions residents may have regarding the fire service in our community.
The Savage Fire Department hosts an annual Halloween party for the community. This is a safe environment in which young children, ages newborn to 12 years, may visit the firefighters, play games and be able to leave with some candy, prizes and most of all, a smile on their face. Our department has been hosting this annual event for nearly 30 years.
The Savage Fire Department has been very active in past Dan Patch Days celebrations and 2011 was no different.
Saturday's event included neighborhood water fights. Several members of the community put together a four-person team and competed against each other.
We also had a Safe Escape trailer for the kids to enjoy, thanks to the Prior Lake Fire Department for the use of the trailer.
On Sunday morning, June 26, we hosted an open house and our annual pancake breakfast. This year's breakfast was held at our new Dakota Avenue fire station. We served over 1100 people in 4 hours.
The Savage Fire Department has three fund-raisers each year:
Pancake Breakfast Held in conjunction with Dan Patch Days, this is held for the general public and has been very successful. Approximately 800 people attend this event. 2011 will be our mark our 14th annual breakfast.
Fund-Raiser Dinner The department sells 100 tickets for this event. Each ticket, for two, is $150. These tickets are most commonly purchased by business owners. There is a steak or chicken dinner and cash drawings are held. This event is typically held the second Monday of October.
Calendar This fund-raiser was started in 1999. A committee was formed to sell advertising on a calendar. The firefighters hand deliver the calendars to the residents in Savage around Fire Prevention Week.
