Most fire apparatus is custom built. The typical process can take anywhere from six months to 2 years.
Due to the high cost of fire trucks and the need for reliable equipment; the Savage Fire Department has set up a vehicle replacement program. The program helps the Council budget for the expense and ensures the Department has the equipment it needs to respond to the community's fire emergencies.
- Ladder trucks are to be replaced every 30 years, with a refurbishment at 15 years at 50% of the cost.
- Engines and large trucks should be able to last 20 years, with a refurbishment at 10 years at 50% of the original purchase price.
- Light duty trucks (brush trucks, chiefs vehicles, etc.) are to be replaced at the 10-year mark.
Ladder 81 was purchased in 2004. Built on a Spartan chassis it has a 2000 GPM Waterous pump and a 95' RKI ladder. Ladder 81 is housed at our O'Connell Road station
Engine 26 was purchased in 2006. This truck was built on a Spartan chassis and features a 1250 GPM Waterous pump, a Foam Pro foam system, CAFS, an inside pump panel, a light tower, and a deck gun. Engine 26 is housed at our Dakota Avenue station.
Engine 11 was added in May, 2009, it is a twin to Engine 26, with a few minor changes. Like Engine 26, Engine 11 was built on a Spartan chassis and features a 1250 GPM Waterous pump, a Foam Pro foam system, CAFS, an inside pump panel, a light tower, and a deck gun that can be controlled by the pump operator inside the truck. To help improve visibility we added chevrons to the back of the truck.
Engine 11 is housed at our O'Connell Road station.
Engine 22 was purchased in 1991. The truck was built on a Mack chassis and includes a 1250 GPM Waterous pump, a full response cab with room for 3 firefighters in the rear, in 2004 when it was refurbished we added a Foam Pro system. Engine 22 serves as a backup engine and is currently housed at our Dakota Avenue station. 
Rescue 18 was purchased in 1999. The truck was built on a Peterbuilt chassis and is used as a heavy rescue truck. The truck has a full response cab and has room for 4 firefighters in the rear. The rear box has a transverse compartment for sheets of plywood and rescue tripod and ladder. The truck also fitted with a Night Scan. Rescue 18 is housed at our Dakota Avenue station. 
Rescue 17 was purchased in 1990. This truck is used for medicals and as a mobile command post. Rescue 17 is housed at our O'Connell Road station 
Tanker 67 was purchased in 1987. The truck was built on a Volvo chassis and has the capacity to carry 3000 gallons of water. Tanker 67 was refurbished the summer of 2008. Tanker 67 is housed at our O'Connell Road station 
Both brush trucks are Ford F350 and are fitted with a portable pumps that include a 200 gallon water tank. Brush 71 was purchased in 2004 and Brush 72 was purchased in 2008. Brush 71 is housed at our O'Connell station and Brush 72 is housed at our Dakota Avenue station.
